Long Description |
Benders was a service station that was home owned
and operated in Manito. The station sold Ford cars and trucks. The
owner was Fred Bender. Benders
sold auto accessories and gas. In 1949 Bender’s started the
Speedy advertising campaign. This campaign featured Big Bill Biff
starting
a job at Benders. Bender claimed that it insisted on having only
the best mechanics in the business. The Benders eventually built
a sales
room for their Ford cars. Benders was eventually torn down and now
in its place is the new village hall. The Village Hall is 4,000 square
feet. It is located on the corner of Market and Broadway. It currently
houses the new water department, board room, administration offices,
and police department. Benders Automotive was the only automotive
shop in Manito at it's time.
